Chris Bell and Louise Scott of H Bells present their donation to Liz Dodd from Jolly Josh with the Mayor and Mayoress
Long service awards have been presented to two members of staff at the family-owned construction firm, H Bell & Sons, during a week of celebration.
The Mayor and Mayoress of Rochdale, Mike and Margaret Holly, presented the awards to Dave Hartley and Tony Brady, who have spent 30 and 25 years working with the company.
Dave and Tony were each presented with a huge cake and a gift in recognition of their years of loyalty and hard work.
On the day (Thursday 8 February), managing director Chris Bell presented the Mayor’s Charity Appeal – which splits funds for the Mayor’s chosen charities – with £1,000.
Mr Bell also presented cheques for additional donations to two local charities, WHAG (formerly the Women’s Housing Action Group) and Jolly Josh.
H Bell & Sons also recently supported National Apprenticeships Week 2024 by arranging for donations of equipment to improve the gardens and external areas of Springhill Hospice.
Deliveries from Jewson Rochdale arrived and were quickly put to use by apprentices from Hopwood Hall College to repair damaged paving slabs, alongside brand new planters where food for the benefit of the hospice’s patients will be grown.
A new Japanese-style garden area is also planned during the week’s hard work by the young team, improving the environment for patients, families and staff.
H Bell & Sons' Louise Scott also attended Hopwood Hall College’s apprenticeships open evening on Wednesday (7 February), where she spoke with young people about the routes into construction via apprenticeships.
The company has a longstanding relationship with the college, with many of its workforce having started their careers with apprenticeships.
