Mayfield preview

Date published: 05 October 2015

Mayfield play their final league game of their NCL Premier League season on Wednesday night against Wath Brow, from Cumbria. The game is a rearranged fixture because of Brow's involvement in last Saturday's Conference Cup Final, which they lost to Leigh Miners in a thrilling game.

Coaches Matt Calland and Sam Butterworth gave the players a week off and will be hoping to reap the benefit of the rest period as the side takes to the pitch on Wednesday evening.

Mayfield will finish in third place regardless of the result, except in the unlikely event of a 125 point winning margin, then they would move up to second.

Brow are in fifth place needing one point from their two remaining games to lift them into fourth and give them a home tie in the play offs in two weeks.

Calland and Butterworth have a strong squad to select from and were relieved to see powerful Fijian forward Joe Qanuici come through an A Team game on Saturday, after a long layoff with a knee injury.

One player who will definitely be missing is Aidan Gleeson, who will be in South Africa with the GB side, but with Qanuici back in the squad and a strong set of forwards in waiting this should not present too much of a problem.

The game is sponsored by Kosco Interiors Ltd and the Tanners Arms.
