Forty walkers set off from Dane Street - the site of the first ever Rochdale Hornets game - this morning (Wednesday 22 July) as part of the Rugby League Founder's Walk and finished at Kingsway Park High School.
The walkers included Hornet's players Danny Bridge and James Tilley, along with Hornets supporters and members the local community who are raising money for various local causes, including the Rochdale Hornets Sport Foundation.
Ryan Bradley, CEO of Rochdale Hornets, said: “We have all sectors of people involved so we have players and office staff, volunteers and my children have come along to represent the junior section. We are one of the founding 22 clubs so it is a good way to celebrate that and to celebrate rugby league.”
Today’s walk covered over 20 miles and will continue tomorrow starting in Broughton and will end on Friday (24 July) with walkers finishing at Langtree Park in St Helens.

Mr Bradley added: “I haven’t done anything like this before but it has really brought members of the rugby community together. We have Oldham Roughyeds, who are our rivals, with us as well so that is good.”
The Rugby League Founder's Walk is a fundraising initiative that aims to raise £120,000 for rugby league good causes by celebrating the sports 120th birthday.
The walk has been organised over six days and takes in the original grounds of rugby leagues 22 founding clubs.
