Date published: 19 May 2014

Shawclough Thunder met up with Whitemoss in the final of the Heywood Mini Soccer League under 10s Cup final and came out victorious.

The Shawclough team started well and soon found the back of the net when Adam James scored.

In the final 15 minutes of the game Whitemoss pressed and scored an equaliser to take the game to penalties.

Shawclough Thunder claimed the victory with four penalties scored against Whitemoss's three.

Shawclough Thunder manager Eugene Warrener said after the game: “Whitemoss are a quality team who last year dominated the league, but Thunder have worked hard and gelled well as a unit playing great football as a team for each other and it’s great to watch.”

Man of the Match was Will Palmer-Jameson.

Alex Cockerill picked up an excellence award for fair-play after being seen comforting the opposition’s keeper after the game.
