Rochdale Online Alliance Football League Report

Date published: 06 February 2014

With the elements again claiming a number of games in both league and cup it was 3G and Greenvale only once more in the Rochdale Online Alliance Football League as Balderstone put last week’s league defeat behind them to progress to the semi final stage of the President’s Cup.

All four cup quarter finals would have been lost but for Walsden’s generous offer to switch their tie to the 3G at Kingsway once they realised their pitch was not fit to stage the tie at the first time of asking.

The net result was an excellent game of football but a cup exit for them as goals from Prescott, Kershaw and Henderson saw Balderstone through to a last four tie against the eventual winners of the Rochdale Sacred Heart v F&W 2nds quarter final.

In the Sartori Sharpening Services Premier Division Oldham Boro completed their home league programme, and will hope to have put a difficult fortnight behind them, with a 2-1 win over White Lion with goals from Wetton and Wilson.

The win virtually ensures a top half finish for a young Boro side in their first season of open age football and they have been a refreshing presence in an ultra competitive top division.

What 3G can provide so can Greenvale and a Tom Whiteman hat trick fired F&W Rovers into fourth place in the Matthew Montgomery & Co First Division with a 6-2 win over Balderstone 2nds. Harris-Hudson (2) and Kibble completed the scoring with Agg and Sands on the mark for the visitors.

With F&W 2nds in cup action this weekend they will have one eye on their title rivals, Rochdale Asia and Sudden, as they both face potential 'banana skin' away games at Hargreaves and F&W Rovers respectively, whilst Premier Division leaders FC Bury Town will be hoping to open a four point gap at the top by 4pm Saturday after their home game against Oldham Boro.
