ABA affiliation for local boxing coach

Date published: 24 January 2014

The Full Contact Performance Centre on Queensway has seen one of its coaches gain an ABA affiliation.

David Hodkinson, who is the Head Boxing Coach at the centre, has earned the affiliation which will now allow the gym to enter competitions as well as train and qualify coaches and officials.

An experienced amateur boxer, David won 79 of his 95 amateur fights and knows the importance of competitive boxing. He said: “It means we can progress really. Before there was no future for the kids but now we have something for them to work towards.”

A former North West Champion and East Lancs Champion, David will now be hoping to transfer some of his knowledge and experience to the youngsters of Rochdale through his coaching.

“We are looking for new members but it’s not just about members, we want new champions. Hopefully we can change a few lives because I know boxing can turn people’s lives around.

“We have a few junior lads looking to enter competition but their about eight to twelve weeks away at the minute. We have some really promising young lads here and the future is bright.”
