Rochdale’s Mark Thompson is ready to be unleashed
Date published: 21 March 2012
In one of the most eagerly awaited domestic comebacks of the year, Coldwell Boxing’s Mark Thompson will face off against Eddie Corcoran as part of a fantastic, evenly matched undercard to Tony Bellew’s British light heavyweight title clash against Danny McIntosh at Liverpool’s Echo Arena on 14 April.
Thompson, who has not fought in two years, recently signed up to Dave Coldwell’s ever growing stable of fighters and his new promoter is thrilled with the match up and reappearance of Thompson.
“I’m delighted to make the fight. Corcoran’s very confident and he’s got a great looking record with his only defeat coming against (Commonwealth welterweight champion) Denton Vassell,” said Coldwell.
“Mark Thompson vs Eddie Corcoran is a real fight and if he comes through that and has one or two fights more I’d then put him in with the winner of Colin Lynes vs Junior Witter (who are due to fight for the British welterweight title in the future.)
Renowned for his punching power and his never say die attitude, Thompson is ready to be let off the leash after a forced absence from the sport.
“Mark’s chomping at the bit. I’m excited about promoting him and the things I’m hearing about him in the gym. And without doubt he remains one of the biggest punchers on the domestic scene,” Coldwell enthused.
When speaking of his next opponent, Thompson said: “He’s not a massive puncher but he’s a tall rangy fighter so I’ll need to go in and put the pressure on him.
“I’m going to go in, do what I do and get the job done. My weight’s alright, I’m feeling fit and I just can’t wait to get back out there, get the job done and move on.”
