Police have taken steps to support victims and arrest offenders
Police in Rochdale have made 23 arrests as part of a focused crackdown on domestic abuse in the borough. Working in partnership with the local authority and support organisations, officers have taken significant steps to support victims and survivors while holding offenders accountable.
In addition to the arrests, Greater Manchester Police carried out visits to high-risk offenders to ensure they were complying with protective orders. Officers also visited victims to provide support and reassurance.
Community engagement has been a key part of the initiative. Police hosted information stalls and drop-in sessions across the borough to raise awareness and provide resources for those affected by domestic abuse. They also worked with local students, holding discussions on healthy relationships, consent, and recognising the signs of abuse.
Detective Chief Inspector Joanne Williams, Rochdale’s vulnerability lead, highlighted the importance of breaking the silence around domestic abuse. She said: “Domestic abuse is a crime that thrives in silence and isolation; it has devastating and lasting impacts on individuals and families, which is why it remains a top priority for us in GMP.
“We will always be here to support those affected by domestic abuse and help provide a voice for victims who may feel isolated or unheard.”
Residents are urged to report domestic abuse, rape, or sexual violence to GMP. Non-emergencies can be reported by calling 101 or via the online reporting tool on the GMP website at www.gmp.police.uk. In emergencies, people should dial 999 immediately.
