Dale players move to Barnsley
Date published: 21 June 2011
Scott Wiseman and Matt Done are following in the foot steps of the recently departed Keith Hill, with a move to Barnsley.
The pair will be playing their football in the Championship next season, after terms were agreed between both clubs.
New boss Steve Eyre admitted he was disappointed the duo wanted to leave Spotland but felt he couldn't stand in their way of their respective careers.
He told the club website: “I know a lot about Matt and Scott and it would have been nice to work with them but they have the chance to play at championship level and I cannot stand in their way.
“I also don't want any players at the club whose hearts and minds aren't 100% Rochdale, so I'll give them my best wishes and move on
The move, subject to medicals and agreeing personal terms for the duo, should be completed on Tuesday.
The Chief Executive of Rochdale, Colin Garlick, told the club website: "We are disappointed to lose Scott and Matt but to be honest we were expecting Keith to come in for some of the players.
“I know Steve didn't want to lose these players but he has spoken to both of them and they indicated their desire to play in the Championship.
“I have spoken to both their agents who were also keen that the players be given the opportunity to play at a higher level. Following discussions over the last few days with Steve and the board we feel it is in the interests of both the players and more importantly the club that Scott and Matt are allowed to leave
“We have agreed a deal with Barnsley which we believe is a very good one and we will move forward.
“On behalf of the club I would like to thank Scott and Matt for their services over the years to Rochdale Football Club and wish them well for the future."
