Mayfield Preview
Date published: 08 October 2010
After a poor performance last weekend at home to Stanley Rangers, Mayfield hope to make a marked improvement when they make the short journey to old rivals St Anne’s of Oldham.
St Anne’s have had an inauspicious start to the season and went down 40 points to 20 last week at Stanningley. They will be stinging from that result, and will be pulling out all the stops to claim the win tomorrow (Saturday 9 October).
Mayfield are also having a slow start to the campaign with only one win from four outings, so they too will be all out for the win. This has the potential to be an excellent game.
There are still a couple of players who will undergo late fitness tests, so Butterworth has delayed naming his team, but there are a couple of second-team players who have caught the eye in recent weeks and are pushing for places. Players meet at the club as per pre match text.
The second team are at home tomorrow, when they entertain West Bank Swans of Widnes. The visitors are currently in the bottom half of the table, having claimed just one win from four. After last weeks defeat at Saddleworth the coaching staff have been concentrating on the set plays and bolstering the usually solid defence.
Ashworth commented, if we can reclaim the defence we started the season with, as well as score tries from set play positions, then we should be too strong for West Bank. There are a couple of players back from injury this week to bolster last week’s team, and players are asked to meet at the club as per pre match text.
