Milnrow keep up the title challenge

Date published: 24 August 2010

Middleton skipper, Steve Davey won the toss and chose to bat first, on a track that was to prove slow due to the mid week rain.

Scott Stanworth and deputy Professional, Neil Edwards opened the batting and had taken the score to 26 when Stanworth was well caught, low down at slip by, Milnrow captain, Paul Winrow off Adam Good for 11.

Nine runs later skipper, Steve Davey's poor run continued when he was stumped by Max Power off Good for 2.

With the score on 50, Alex Scholefield struck a big blow to Middleton when he had Edwards caught and bowled for 28.

Martin Roberts and Danny Core put on a stand of 30 before Roberts was caught by Scholefield off Milnrow professional Kuldip Diwan for 17.

With the score on 104, Reece Jones was the next to go for 8, again caught by Scholefield off Diwan and 2 runs later Core was out for 25, caught by Paul Winrow off the bowling of John Storey.

Danny Royle gave Scholefield his third catch of the innings, again off Storey for 9. Middleton struggled on to 138 all out with Dale Highton being unbeaten on 14.

Middleton needed early wickets and that's what they got when Highton had Scholefield caught by Roberts for 4 with the score on 5.

16 runs later Mark Buckley had Power LBW for 5 and 20 runs later he bowled Hicklin for 7 and Milnrow were 41 for 3.

That was to be the last wicket for Middleton as Milnrow won by 7 wickets with more than 17 overs left. Winrow finishing on an unbeaten 48 to pass 1000 runs for the season, and Diwan's 58 not out to continue Middleton's poor run.
