Norden CC v Oldham CC
Date published: 09 August 2010
Norden suffered a hiccup which echoed round the Lake Garage Central Lancashire League.
For the second time this season the leaders lost to Oldham which means their lead over second placed Rochdale is now down to three points.
The Stags did get a point for reaching 75 per cent of their opponents total, but perhaps it would have been better for them had the game been abandoned without a ball being bowled, and there was a real danger of that at one time as a very damp wicket slowly dried out.
Had that happened they would have got two points and saved a bit of face.
The game got under way more than two hours after the scheduled start time, reduced to 27 overs per team.
Oldham were dismissed for 128, with Nick Brierley taking three catches behind the wicket and Phil Docker taking three catches in the deep.
Harvey Fitton finished with bowling figures of four for 38.
Norden's reply reached 43 before they lost a wicket, and there seemed little to worry about for them.
But the innings then disintegrated as home pro' Mohammed Hanif, helped by some poor shots, took five for 29.
By the time the last wicket fell, with the total on 107, Norden were already well out of it, and the heavy rain falling just about summed up a damp day for The Stags.
Michael Price was top scorer for Norden with 39. Harvey Fitton (10) and Greg Tattersall (12) were the only other players to get into double figures.
