The Hornets boys are back in town!

The Hornets take on the Scorpions, who has the deadliest sting?

After weeks away from home, Hornets finally make their long awaited return to Spotland Stadium in their crunch clash against new boys, The South Wales Scorpions.

After 6 weeks of travels Hornets face the stern test of the suprise package of the division.

After tasting defeat down in Neath, Hornets look to get "back on the horse" on Sunday. But they will need your support to do it.

We have had a major push by our Community Department and we are again hopeful of a healthy turnout to welcome the boys back from their travels.

Barry gets on-board!
As members will be aware part of the rules of our Trust are that we must have a certain number of co-opted board members in position.

Co-opted board members are individuals who posses certain skill sets outside of those of the elected board.

We are delighted to welcome local accountant Mr Barry Shaw onto the board.

Barry has his own accountancy practice and will bring a host of valuable skills and advice to the club.

Hornets Chairman Mark Wynn said, "Barry has already proven to be a huge asset to the club and really complements the people we already have in place."

Hornets President Paul Ormerod added "Barry is another piece in the jigsaw as we improve our already impressive off field team.

As we all work in the weeks, months and years ahead to take Hornets forward Im sure Barry will prove to be a superb addition to the club.

When we sit down in a few years time and asses how far the club has advanced the addition of Barry will prove to be one of the cornerstones of our progress".

Curry Night sold outThank you to all the people who have signed up to the Curry Night. It is now a virtual sell out with just a hand full of tickets left.

Another great response for supporters and players alike. It should be a fantastic night.

Star performer
Hornets RL community team will complete their schools coaching for the academic year on Wednesday at Stansfield Hall Primary.

Over this academic year Hornets have delivered a variety ofprogrammes in over 40 schools and have already booked to work with the Falinge primary school cluster when the children return from the summer break.

Throughout the year coaches have kept their eyes open for children who have excelled during their sessions and awarded numerous star performer certificates.

This years overall star performer award has been presented to Bridie Creagh of Cornholme Primary School in Todmorden.

Bridie took part in a 7 week coaching block which introduced her and her class mates to the FUNdamentals of Rugby League. Throughout the sessions Bridie showed great athleticism and grew in confidence as she put her newly learnt skills into practice, Bridie also proved to be a great team player, encouraging her friends throughout.

Bridie was presented a signed Hornets match ball in recognition of her achievements and also received a golden ticket to attend training with Mayfield Mustangs ARLFC.

Schools who have taken part in this academic year's schools programme have also received vouchers to attend Hornets RL v South Wales Scorpions on 25/07/10 at Spotland Stadium.

Social Accounting
Hornets are currently going through what is known as a Social Accountancy Audit.

The audit has been commisioned by Supporters Direct. The model of Hornets as a Supporter owned club is atttracting a lot of attention across Rugby League and sport in general (see this months Rugby League World).

As such a Social Accountancy Audit shows the impact Hornets make on the local community.

A small section of the first stages of the Social Account is printed below.

Overall then, it can be seen that the club (Hornets) directly generates a total of at least £165,430 value to the local community from sources able to be accessed over the period of a full year.

However, while impressive, the actual true level of economic impact that the club creates is also undoubtedly much higher than this figure suggests, as this study has not been able to capture all costs and values (as detailed above) and does not take account of the 'local multiplier effect' – the extent to which other local businesses in the area benefit from the clubs' activities in attracting additional tourism and leisure spend on food, accommodation, and so on.

More Touch Rugby
Paul Scanlon Wells is running a Social Touch Rugby Session every Monday at Firgrove playing fields starting Monday 26 July at 7pm which will initially run for 4 weeks.
The sessions will be open to all with no age restriction and all abilities welcome.
So come along and have some fun , Give it a TRY!
