Rochdale Swarm on tour

Date published: 29 June 2010

The Rochdale Swarm complete their latest leg of their 2010 season on Sunday (4 July 2010) with a trip down to the capital to play in the London Skolars Tag Rugby League Festival.

The Skolars Festival is being played as part of the build up to the Skolars V Hornets game which is being played in the afternoon.

The Swarm have been very busy of late with a trip to South Wales to play the Celtic Barbarians. This was followed by a Tag Rugby League Festival in Hull at the weekend.

On top of this the Swarm have played in two games in the last couple of weeks in the new Rochdale Tag Rugby League Series.

First up was a narrow 10-7 victory over the Flying Horse which was followed up by a 20-16 loss to the Rochdale Cobras.

It is hoped to add more teams and fixtures over the summer.

Despite being badly affected with injuries, holidays and work commitments the Swarm have put in some creditable performances with Shaun Slicker having a very good introduction to Tag Rugby League, this is despite at only 23 years of age he was diagnosed with Parkinsons disease. Tag Rugby has allowed him to continue to play the game he loves.

Recent signing David Mansfield has also been a revelation at Tag Rugby League, given that until arriving at the Swarm he had never touched a Rugby Ball before.

The female players at the Swarm have also hit a rich vain of form with Emily Wynn and Gaynor Ramsbottom playing consistently well at each fixture, along side Kristy Naylor and Maria Wynn who have also maintained a high standard.

The Swarm hope to welcome back Matty Fallows this week who missed his first game in nearly two years as he had to sit out the Hull Festival due to a leg injury, the Swarm did miss his pace and enthusiasm and fingers crossed he will return for the Skolars festival.

All Swarm players are asked to meet at 7am on Sunday morning at Firgrove Workers for the journey down to the Skolars.

Also Swarm training continues at 6.30pm Tuesdays and Thursdays on Firgrove playing fields.
