Cricket Kenya cancel Rochdale tour

Date published: 21 June 2010

Cricket Kenya have been forced to cancel their short tour to Rochdale following a dispute between players and officials.

The team were set to visit the town between 20 and 27 of June playing three 50 over warm up games against local sides before moving on to face Holland in an International League Division 1 match.

Players called the strike on the eve of the trip after refusing to travel unless the board agreed to their new contract demands.

The contracts of the 16-man squad expired at the end of May and had been expected to be renegotiated hassle free, with Cricket Kenya reportedly offering a 10% pay rise within the contracts.

However, last week a four-man team, claiming to represent the squad, met with Cricket Kenya officials and set out new terms and demands, which were seen as unacceptable by the board.
