Rochdale CLS in comfortable win over Walsden CC

Date published: 20 June 2010

An inspired bowling performance by Rochdale helped them to a comfortable victory over Walsden Cricket Club at Redbrook.

Walsden batted first and looked like they were going to notch up a difficult target for Rochdale when they were 83 for just 3 wickets and with over half their allotted 50 overs still to play. However, Rochdale’s bowlers had other ideas and a quick succession of wickets stopped Walsden in their tracks limiting them to just 47 more runs and bowling them out in 35 overs, 15 short of their allotted 50.

With a target of just 131 to win Rochdale took the crease confident of an easy win but made hard work of it to begin with, losing 3 wickets in the first 15 overs and scoring only 50 runs.

Three more wickets fell relatively cheaply leaving Rochdale fretting on 86 for 6. However, with half their overs left to spare it looked as if they may run out of wickets before they run out of overs.

No more wickets were to fall and a good measured batting display saw Rochdale reach the 131 needed in just 33 overs.
