Bamford-Fieldhouse Under 13s cricket report

Date published: 14 June 2010

On a busy weekend Bamford Under 13s made it eight consecutive wins as they progressed to the semi-final of the cup and beat Saddleworth 'B' in the league.

New team Stalybridge St Paul’s were the opponents in the cup quarter-final on Friday evening and Bamford made their customary good start with openers Joe Smith-Butler and Alex Willis scoring a number of boundaries before retiring. The Bamford innings closed on 164-5 with useful contributions from Connor Wright (19), Callum Belfield (13), Charlie Lloyd-Jones (23 no.) and Adam Deaville (9 no.).

With a good total on the board, Bamford were able to spread the bowling around with all the outfield players getting some overs. Although they bowled accurately, the Stalybridge batsmen proved difficult to get out and it was in the 19th over when they were finally dismissed for 33.

Adam Ahmed took 3 wickets for no runs for the second time this season and Willis took 2 for 3.

Then on Sunday they travelled to Saddleworth and made another flying start with Smith-Butler getting a 12-ball 30. After this, the home bowlers got their act together and Bamford only managed another 17 runs from the next 7 overs, losing four wickets in the process.

The innings was rescued by Ben Garside (32 no.) and Callum Belfield (26) who put on 62 runs together. Bamford ended on 121-6 with Parsons (3-17) the top Saddleworth bowler.

Bamford again spread the bowling around and the Saddleworth batsmen took advantage of this but still came up short on 95-6. There were 27 extras making up a large portion of the score.
