Thornham Cricket Club members working on the new drainage system
It has been a wet winter at Thornham Cricket Club but preparations are well under way for the start of the new season, which begins on April 24th. The club have had to undergo major work on new drainage on the ground and it has taken a lot of effort from volunteers to ensure that cricket can be played there this summer.
This weekend sees the return of Natwest CricketForce, where employees of the bank team up with volunteers to help cricket clubs up and down the country. Thornham have benefitted from this collaboration in recent years and help is needed this year more than even.
“As well as the work that has been done on the ground there are still all the other little jobs that need doing to prepare the ground ahead of a new season,” Kevin McMahon, the club’s Chairman explained. “We rely on the support of volunteers to do this. We are very grateful to Natwest for supporting our club in this project.”
Anyone who would like to come along this weekend and help at the ground would be more than welcome. The teams of volunteers will be there from 11am on both Saturday and Sunday.
