Rugby league: Mayfield preview

Date published: 16 June 2023

Mayfield have had some tough games this season but Saturday's (17 June), away at Lock Lane will be one of the toughest. With players away on holiday and three away on international duty the depth of the squad will be tested to the limits.

Harry Sheridan and Ben Metcalfe are representing England Community Lions U18s while facing them in the clash will be teammate Isaac Reid playing for Scotland. Everyone at Mayfield wish the lads all the best. Their countries' gain is their 'loss though and Mayfield will have to be at their best as they take to the field at Castleford.

Over the last four games Sam Butterworth's team have averaged 50 points per game, which is no mean feat when playing at the top level, and they will be looking to run up a good score on Saturday against the odds.

Lock Lane were tipped to do well this season but they have failed to live up to that promise. Last week though they had a very impressive victory away at Siddal and will be looking at that win as the restart their season needed. Mayfield triumphed over the Castleford side in the first game of the season and will be looking to do the double and keep up their push for the top spot on the division.

Fixture Saturday 17 June 2023

  • NCL Premier Division: Lock Lane v Mayfield, kick-off 2.30pm
