The wheelchair rugby team needs new players
The Rochdale Hornets Wheelchair rugby team need new players wanting to give the unique sport – designed for disabled and able-bodied people alike – a try.
Wheelchair rugby league aims to replicate the running game of rugby league, with a number of modifications to ensure that it can include any participants who are physically disabled or non-disabled. The unique nature of the game means all players are on a level playing field, regardless of age, gender or ability.
Greg Bramwell, who has been with the team since December, said: “I get a really buzz from it and have met some new friends; you don’t have to be disabled to get involved.
“We have a game this Saturday (27 May) at home if people would like to see what a game is like before getting involved.”
Anyone interested in joining should attend the weekly sessions, which take place at Rochdale Leisure Centre on Thursday evenings between 6-8pm.

The Saturday fixture against Bradford Bulls kicks off at 3pm at Rochdale Leisure Centre.
