Medal haul for Dojo Karate Centre

9 of the 10 fighters with Sensei Irfan Ansari
Members of the Dojo Karate Centre came away from the Midland Open Martial Arts Championships last week with a haul of 16 medals.
Eleven pupils gained the medals in six categories, including kata, kumite, weapons kata, point sparring, continuous sparring and creative self-defence.
Huseyn Mikayilov, Isla-Rose Goodfellow, Elliott Wilson, Maryam Nurani, and Antonio Enus all landed silver medals in their respective categories: kata, kumite, kumite, weapons kata, and point sparring.

Gold medals were won in kumite by Helal Ali, Diya Kerai, Kamil Pogwizd and Spencer Partington, with Maryam picking up gold in kata.
Bronze medals were awarded to Elliott (point-sparring), Kamil (kata) Spencer (continuous sparring) and Ryan Smithies (creative self-defence).
Two fighters from the competition – Isla-Rose and Maryam – will be representing the Dojo at the World Championships in Florida this summer, joined by a third fighter, Natalie Dean, who could not be at the Midland Championships due to work commitments.
