Cricket: Heywood Cricket Club teams for the weekend and Pro arrives

Faisal Iqbal will make his Heywood debut on the opening day of the Greater Manchester Cricket League season on Saturday, 20 April at 12.30pm.

The 37-year-old, who has played international cricket for Pakistan, was due to arrive in England on Wednesday, 17 April and will feature in the senior side at Denton West at the weekend.

James Kettleborough, who played in the two friendly games last weekend, also makes his Heywood bow proper as the side bids to make an immediate impression in Division 1A after being relegated from the Premier League last year.

The second team entertain Oldham, also on Saturday, 1pm, in Division 3 East while there is Sunday action for the 3rd X1 at Egerton, 1.30pm. Zeeshan Baig, an opening bowler signed from Chester area club Upton, makes his debut.

  • Heywood 1st X1 (v Denton West, away, Saturday, 12.30): S Burrill (capt), W Hunt, M Grogan, S Dawson, J Morley, A Dawson, J Kettleborough, R Cross, T Pagett, C Hilton, F Iqbal.
  • Heywood 2nd X1 (v Oldham, home, Saturday, 1pm): S Evans (capt), M Witts, J Kaye, R Bennett, C Booth, L Grogan, D Fawcett, C Kaye, J Keyworth, J Carter, H Crompton.
  • Heywood 3rd X1 (v Egerton, away, Sunday, 1,30pm): D Fare (capt), M Hood, J O’Neill, T Pagett, L Jackson, Z Baig, W Taylor, J Carter, H Crompton, M Dearden, C Hilton.
