Basketball: Rochdale Men and Women teams at Strathclyde Masters 2019 - Glasgow

Date published: 22 April 2019

Both of the Rochdale Rocket and Rockette basketball teams travelled to Glasgow last weekend (13 and 14 April) and participated in the Strathclyde Masters Basketball tournament.

Rockets men won their first games on Saturday against Aberdeen by 6 points and by 1 against Rathmines (Dublin).

The semi-finals game was on Sunday against a mighty Belgium Warriors team which Rockets led and dominated throughout the game.

However due to lack of concentration and some excellent 3-point shooting by the Belgians at the very end of the fourth quarter, Rockets lost the game.

The overall winner in the men's division was Galway Masters team who were excellent over the weekend.

This tournament was also the newly-formed Rochdale Rockettes first outing on the master’s circuits and they certainly did not disappoint. They played really well and narrowly lost to some though opponents from Ireland and the London area.

The Rockettes looked very smart on court thanks to a generous sponsorship deal from AMS Technical Plastics LTD.

The overall winners in the Ladies division were the Strathclyde ladies’ team from Glasgow.

The sixth Strathclyde International tournament was the Rocket and Rockettes first tournament of the year and they are now preparing for a number of other UK and overseas 2019 events.
