Alex Walmsley AKA Cyanide will be partaking in Ring of Pakistan
A renowned professional wrestler from Rochdale will be competing in Pakistan’s first international wrestling event in December.
British Heavyweight Champion Cyanide – real name Alex Walmsley – will be taking part in Ring of Pakistan Season 2k18, which was founded with the aim of promoting professional wrestling in Pakistan and using the sport to encourage peace.
Investment banker by day, Walmsley transforms into 26-stone wrestler Cyanide at night.
He said: “I’m extremely excited to be a part of Ring of Pakistan and looking forward to some world-class competition at the event.
“I am training exceptionally hard to be able to put my best foot forward and give the competitors a tough fight. I’m also regulating my workout regime to be as fit as possible for this competition.
“I really enjoy wrestling and I’m honoured to play a role in familiarising Pakistan with this sport and hope to be an inspiration for the youth of the nation, resulting in them taking up the sport and be fond of it as much as I am.
“I’m a strong believer of sports having the ability to bridge the gaps between the nations and cultivate a friendly and peaceful environment.
“It is a great initiative to bring cultures and societies together to promote peace among nations and a sustained mutual development. The event is a symbol of community cohesion and promotes peace and harmony within the country through sport.”
Last year’s inaugural wrestling event saw more than 20 international wrestlers travel to Pakistan, including the likes of famous professional names including former WWE superstars Wade Berret, and Carlito.
Where there was previously no formal body to promote wrestling in Pakistan, Ring of Pakistan has achieved success, recognised by the Pakistan Sports Board and working in accordance with international standards to launch Pakistan’s first professional wrestling event.
Imran Shah, Director Ring of Pakistan commented: “We are delighted to have Cyanide perform at the event. He is a seasoned professional wrestler who has been in the business for over 12 years and has fans from all across the globe owing to his hugely-successful career and signature moves.
“Association of Cyanide with the Ring of Pakistan will be extremely instrumental in giving confidence to young people with a sense of inclusion and inspiring local youth to help create the next generation of athletes and secure Pakistan’s status abroad as a sporting nation.
“The fact that he is world-known adds value for the Ring of Pakistan as his fans from all over the world will resonate with the event and make it a huge success.”
This year Ring of Pakistan Season 2k18 takes place at two shows over the course of a week in December, with even more international wrestlers taking part.
The event will be hosted by American performing artist Jonny Loquato, who will also act as ring broadcaster and observer.
