A last grasp Timon Warburton try gave Littleborough U11s a memorable late 11-10 victory against Sale FC.

With Sale pressurised on their own try line in the last minutes of the game and desperate to snatch a remarkable late victory of their own, a dropped ball was pounced on by Littleborough's young forward to give the home side the share of the spoils.

This was an ending that this thrilling contest deserved in a brilliant game at Rakewood as a well drilled Sale side really tested the home side come the second half.

At half time Littleborough were 6-2 up. Cracking tries from the likes of Timon Warburton (2), Daniel Taylor (2) and Callum Sharrocks precluded a score from one of the Under 11s new players this season, Charlie Slade.

In the second half, visiting Sale came back and answered every try back with their own, plus two more for good measure.

However, five more tries from Harrison Dickinson, Ellis Johnson and a brace from Warburton, were yet to come from Littleborough to make it a nail biting last 10-minutes.

The epic ripping of the ball by Dickinson from a player’s hands, right on their try line and clearing it away, stopping them from getting what would have been the winning try would prove immense.

In the final minute of the game the ball went over the try line as Sale had lost it, and it was just lying there, untouched, metres away from the dead ball area - until Timon pounced on it to score the winning try, much to the dismay of the visitors.

When the final whistle blew, it was Littleborough U11s who came out on top.

There was great rugby seen from every single player: the epic ripping of the ball by Dickinson from an opponent's hands right on their try line and clearing it away, stopping them from getting what would have been the winning try.

In the midst of a ferocious contest, there was also time for a show of great sportsmanship and respect by Ellis Johnson. While the game was continuing in the background, he stopped and stayed with an injured player until the coaches came to him.

It really was a morning where good rugby was enjoyed not just by the team, but by the spectators too.
