Sailing: Chris Massey and his Phantom do well in good racing conditions

Date published: 30 October 2018

Bright sunshine and a strong northerly wind provided good conditions for racing at Hollingworth Lake on Sunday (28 October).

However, the low water level and difficulty in getting boats on and off the water discouraged some.

Chris Massey forsook his own boat and stepped into a Phantom, a much speedier boat than the chasing Solos but he just got far enough ahead to win the first race.

He took second in the next race when Martin Brennan won in a Solo and lead in the third race, shortened when the wind dropped to a drift.

Martin Brennan had battled to keep ahead of Nick Brook in the other Solo to be runner-up on the day.

Another battle was in the GP14s where Colin Knott and Richard Long finished in fourth place in two races but were beaten overall by Andy Carter and Les Burns with a third place in the last race.
