Hamer Boxing Club gets a Mayoral visit

Date published: 18 September 2018

Mayor Mohammed Zaman visited Hamer Amateur Boxing Club on Monday 3 September, and he impressed with the  diversity, teamwork and camaraderie in the gym.

He was impressed with the skills of the young participants and mentioned this when he told them he once gave boxing a go but it was too tough for him.

He spoke about hard work, discipline, teamwork, commitment and friendship.

The visit coincided with a visit to Rochdale Town Hall by Hamer's latest national champion, 11-year-old Allana Shaw who was invited, along with her family, to meet the Mayor for tea whilst receiving a certificate and badge for her achievement in becoming the first female boxer from Rochdale to win a national title.

Steven Connellan, Hamer Boxing head coach, said: "It is great that our peers take time out to recognise our boxer's achievements because it inspires them to go on a achieve greater things within the world of boxing.

“The new season is upon us now but we are still looking for new boxers to come along and reach the same levels as our past champions to make out town proud."
