Cricket: Tolley continues great run with the bat as Norden see off Rishton

Date published: 29 May 2018

Josh Tolley continued his great run with the bat as Norden picked up a maximum 12 points from their home game against Rishton on Sunday.

The opener followed up his century of the previous day by scoring an unbeaten 56 as Stags knocked off the 125 needed for the loss of two wickets.

Rishton are currently bottom of the JW Lees Lancashire League table, and they struggled to score runs.

Jake Sandham picked up a couple of wickets including that of visiting professional Mansoor Amjad for 22, both Sandham, and Dan Buckley having troubled the batsmen with their pace.

Bradley Boddie did his best to hold the innings together  with a lengthy unbeaten knock of 46, but the remaining batsmen managed only 14 runs between them.

Hashum Malik was on a hat-trick at one stage and finished his 13 overs with four for 29, while Greg Butterworth’s spin ran through the tail end to see him finish with four for 12 off eight overs.

The reply saw young Joe Humphreys open with Tolley.

Humphreys looked untroubled and made his way to 14 before being caught at point by Patel.

Tolley and Jake Sandham then took Stags within reach. Sandham played some fierce shots which included seven fours and a six, but when on 48 he went for a big hit off Boddie, skied the ball, and was caught on the drop by Hilton.

Tolley’s knock included six fours and a six, and there was one boundary for Steve Pimm as the target was reached with almost 30 overs to spare.
