Racing at the Lake on Sunday started with the Spring Pursuit Race where boats start on timed intervals, led by the slowest. on Sunday, 22 April, started with the Spring Pursuit Race where boats start on timed intervals, led by the slowest.
Nigel Davey, in a Solo, was away for some time until caught by Martin Brennan and Steve Caladine in a GP14.
At times the westerly wind was quite gusty and caught out the spinnaker boats on a planing leg.
Martin Brennan held the lead to the finish.
The Merlin Rockets caught up in the closing stages and Stuart Bates with Andy Hilton managed to overtake Nigel Davey on the last leg for runner-up spot.
In the two series races that followed, the GP14s were to the fore.
Adam McGovern and Ellie Davies had the best results, a win and a second place, ahead of Martin Brennan and Steve Caladine, with a second and a fourth.
Nick Heginbotham and daughter Holly won the second race, in a Merlin Rocket for runner-up on the day.
There was close racing for the six Toppers out, showing how quickly the young sailors are developing.
