Cricket: Heywood teams for the weekend

Tom McQuinn will make his Heywood debut in Saturday’s first game of the Greater Manchester Premier League season.

The 28-year-old Australian opening bowler landed in England on Monday and goes straight into the senior side for a testing opener against champions Flixton at Crimble (12.30).

McQuinn plays alongside Riley Paterson for Melbourne area club side Croydon, and they now team up again in Heywood colours.

The 23-year-old Paterson, whose girlfriend Elly is McQuinn’s brother, was Heywood’s overseas amateur in 2013 and 2014.

The second team face a trip to Failsworth Macedonia in Division Four East (1pm).
