Eliot Scanlon-Wells in Scotland Rugby League Under 19s squad

Date published: 24 August 2017

Eliot Scanlon-Wells, a Rochdale Mayfield Mustang rugby league player, has made it into the Scotland Rugby League Under 19s squad for their four game series starting Saturday in Glasgow.

Eliot made it through the final trial match last weekend in Edinburgh and was included in the four game series squad which takes on Ireland RL in Glasgow on Sunday before moving onto London the following weekend to play the Skollars Academy team. The team then has a tricky game against what will be a strong Cumbria side before the big test, a game at Leigh Miners against the England Lionhearts on Saturday 7 October

Eliot started at Mayfield Mustangs, based at the Mayfield Sports Centre in Castleton, at the age of seven under the coaching of Chris Hilton, an ex Hornets player and local amateur Steven Strand.

He said "I am really looking forward to pulling on the dark blue of Scotland in what will be a difficult few games. If I do well I am hoping to be included in the squad to go to the Rugby League European Championship in Serbia next year."

A club spokesman for Rochdale Mayfield said: "It is great for the club to have players who have come through the age groups at Mayfield and have made it onto greater things; we pride ourselves in offering high quality coaching in a safe and secure environment for all ages, sexes and abilities."
