Handball: Joshua McDaid at Paris World Handball Games

Joshua McDaid, from Heywood, a member of the North East Manchester Hawks Handball Club, played in the Paris World Handball Games.

Lyndsay Beers, Joshua McDaid's mother, said: “Josh returned from the Paris World games on 13 July.

“Josh wears the number seven shirt and England won their group, but were knocked out in the quarter final.

“An awesome achievement at this European level, Josh received team player of the week.”

Councillor Peter Rush said: “Heywood Township proudly sponsored Joshua McDaid and wish him and his team all the best for the future.”

Josh McDaid was part of the Greater Manchester under 16 Handball Squad in 2016:

He has been a member of the England Handball Association Talent Pathway for the previous three years and initially selected to represent the U16 National Academy in Hungary in 2016.

Joshua has participated in the England Handball Association Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence Programme and represented England U17 at the Viking Cup in Scotland in September 2016 and been selected for the Great Britain U19 squad and competed in the international competition in Nordhorn, Germany.
