Cricket: Watch Kate Cross light up Kia Super League

Date published: 27 July 2017

Heywood Cricket Club is appealing for support for the Lancashire Thunder women’s team – featuring the club’s Kate Cross – in their forthcoming Kia Super League campaign.

The Thunder will be playing games around the county as they seek to reach finals day, and will be hoping to build on the massive success of the England Women’s team and their  World Cup win at Lord’s.

As well as Kate, the Lancashire side will feature players who have become well known to the cricketing public during the Women’s Cricket World Cup.

World Cup winners Sarah Taylor and Danielle Hazell (England) will be alongside Amy Satterthwaite and Lea Tahuhu (New Zealand) plus Jess Jonassen (Australia), to add to the quality of Lancashire’s own talented players.

General Manager of the Thunder side is Heywood’s Bobby Cross, who said: “We want to get as many people from Heywood supporting both Kate and the team at our matches this summer, particularly any young girls that may be playing cricket and to help the Club inspire more girls to take up the game.”

Thunder’s home fixtures are:

  • 16 August versus Surrey Stars at the Emirates Old Trafford, 2.30pm start (double header followed by NatWest T20 Blast action).
  • 20 August 20 versus Loughborough Lightning at Blackpool CC, 2.30pm start.
  • 23 August versus Southern Vipers at Liverpool CC, 2.30pm start.

Tickets for the double header are available for £12 adults and £1 juniors and allows access to both games.

The games at Blackpool CC and Liverpool CC are £5 adults and again £1 for juniors.

For group bookings, Lancashire will be ensuring that clubs have the opportunity to meet the players after the match for autographs, selfies and to chat to the side about their cricket.

The club that brings most supporters will also be invited to a Thunder training session to have a further chance to meet the players and to see how they train and prepare for the competition.

Kate Cross added: “If you do plan to come to a game as a group, please let me know how many people you are bringing and I will arrange for the girls to come and say hello.

“Hope to see you all supporting Lancashire Thunder this summer.”
