Rugby League: Mayfield preview

Date published: 01 June 2017

Mayfield resume their fixtures after the Bank Holiday break as they play hosts to St Helen's club, Pilkington Recs on Saturday.

Pilkington have struggled this season back in the big time but are not a team to be underestimated, with a strong back line and a good mobile half back pairing it is just a matter of time before they come into form.

Mayfield hope that will not be on Saturday and will be fielding a strong side in the hope of taking the points and possibly climbing into fourth position in the Kingstone Press NCL Premier division, depending on West Hull’s result.

The week’s break has given players the opportunity to get over mid-season knocks they have been carrying.

Mayfield have struggled to field an unchanged side so far this season and their form, and indeed results, have been influenced by this. A good win at the Mayfield Sports Centre could see them put that right and be the start of a run of good form that the fans and coaches are waiting for.

Due to the withdrawal of Bank Quay from the league, the NWML side have no game. Coaches Dave Harmer and Marvin Connolly are said to be "gutted" at this and have urged the players to turn up and support the senior side.
