Rugby League: Hornets Jets branch out

Date published: 04 April 2017

Rochdale Hornets’ Sporting Foundation continued its work in the community this week as they hosted their second instalment of the Junior Elite Training Programme.

Led by Hornets first team coach and Foundation community manager Alan Kilshaw, the sessions developed the youngster’s skills with a number of drills and small sided games.

There was also some work in the classroom as he talked the players through video analysis before they completed some player profiling tasks.

Kilshaw was delighted with the turnout as they increased numbers on the first session during the last school half-term, especially as they broaden their reach this time out.

He sadi: “Both sessions were well attended and it was good to see so many players from Saddleworth in attendance, as we look to broaden our programmes and increase the number of kids who attend the sessions.”

A third session is planned for the May half-term where children in attendance will receive Super League standard coaching, as well as working on strength and conditioning.

Kilshaw said: “Our next sessions in May will have delivery from our partner club Warrington Wolves, which is a great chance to gain some expert coaching of a Super League standard while also showcasing the children’s ability to the Wolves.

“Our club strength and conditioner Miles Greenwood will also deliver sessions, which presents a great opportunity to those taking part.”
