Rowing: Hollingworth Lake team compete in Women’s Eights Head of River Race

Hollingworth Lake Rowing Club team in Women’s Eights Head of River Race

A team from Hollingworth Lake Rowing Club took part in the 77th Women’s Eights Head of River Race on the Thames in London on 11 March.

The team, consisting of Maggie Page, Mia Robinson, Sally Tisdall, Hannah Lowe, Amy Aspinall, Jules Miller, Molly Achbold, Leanna Daniels and their Cox, George Kershaw, came fourth in their category and finished 157th out of 320 overall with a time of 21:29.8.

The course covers 6.8km and reverses the Oxford/Cambridge boat race course. It involves sweep rowing (each rower has just one oar) and rowing against the spring tide at points.

The Women’s Eights Head of River Race is the largest women's rowing race in the world, with 2,880 women competing on the water at the same time. It is the only race in the UK where novices can compete in the same race as Olympic Athletes. Each crew races against the clock at approximately 10 second intervals.
