Boxing: Aeron Maddocks beats Riley Stesel

Date published: 31 January 2017

Aeron Maddocks, of Hamer Amateur Boxing Club, beat Riley Stesel of Selby Boxing Academy at the Riccall Regen Centre on Saturday.

Right from the bell Stesel looked to impress stepping forward in a crouching stance while throwing and landing a big right hook to the head of 13-year-old Maddocks.

Stesel continued to stay in a tight, crouched stance with constant head movement as he came forward, looking to land his strong right hook to both the body and head, while Maddocks tried to maintain a slight distance from his opponent.

As the round progressed the Hamer youngster found his range and he began to land straight one-two combinations to the face of Stesel, which forced the Selby boxer onto his back foot.

Stesel continued to move forward while trying to landing his big right hook, but with less frequency as Maddocks began to take control of the contest with straight punches that connected every time his opponent moved into range.

Maddocks came out for the second round and had began to land shots at will. His brave opponent continued to push on but the Hamer youngster stepped back, half a step out of range every time Stesel moved forward. Then Maddocks stepped back into range to land swift, text-book combinations.

By round three Stesel was becoming desperate and his hands began to slowly drop, which made the target easier for Maddocks who continued to knock his opponent's head back with fast and accurate combination punches.

Stesel became a little reckless as the contest moved on and he began to throw big, arching punches as he moved forward. Most punches missed but on the odd occasion they did land, the crowd collectively jumped to their feet, hoping for some sort of success from their young boxer, but as the seconds in the round counted down Maddocks continued to land punches that knocked Stesel's head back and won by unanimous decision.
