Date published: 26 January 2017

Emily Louisa Halstead, 11, and her coach Rob Main, played at Royal Lytham and came second narrowly missing out by one point.

Kelly Halstead, Emily’s mum said: “Emily got her first golf clubs in July 2013 for something to do with her dad.

“Emily started playing golf competitively last year when she played in her first 18-hole completion at Rochdale Golf Club.”

Emily is the only girl at Rochdale Golf Club who plays in the junior competitions, the Junior organiser is Tony Coluccio.

Emily is working hard to lower her handicap so she can play in more competitions.

Kelly Halstead said: “The lady captain last year Barbara Hollingworth has been fantastic helping Emily in any way possible.

“Emily played the last competition of the season The Alan and Tony Trophy which is the only junior board competition.

“Emily is the only girl to have ever won this competition and therefore the only girl to have her name on the board.

“Emily is coached by Rochdale Golf Club Professional Rob Main.”
