World and Olympic medalist Keri-anne Payne announces retirement

Former World gold and Olympic silver medallist swimmer Keri-anne Payne, from Heywood, has announced her retirement from the sport.

The 29-year-old won silver in the inaugural Olympic 10km event in Beijing in 2008 and was fourth at London 2012.

Keri-anne won world championship gold in the event in 2009 and 2011 and was eighth in the Rio Olympic finalin 2016.

In a retirement statement, she said: "The decision to retire from competitive swimming has been made easy as I continue to chase and fuel my passion, inspiring people to share my love of open-water swimming."
