Cricket: Richard Bonser made life member of Norden Cricket Club

Date published: 23 January 2017

Richard Bonser has been made a life member of Norden Cricket Club.

The honour was bestowed on him during the club’s annual general meeting.

Richard was a Norden player from 1953 to 1982, but his appearances were somewhat limited due to his exploits in rugby league.

Following his retirement as a player he was a member of the club’s cricket committee and also served as a selector.

He has been a Norden member for more than 70 years.

The AGM heard that Norden showed a profit of £631 during the last financial year.

A considerable amount was spent on upgrading equipment and property, and on enhancing entertainment.

Club chairman John Murphy said it had been a challenging year in which steps were taken to arrest declines in turnover and membership.

The results of measures taken resulted in record sales figures and increased membership.

All officials were re-elected: Brian Butterworth (president), John Murphy (chairman), Steve Clegg (treasurer), Les Barlow (secretary).

Colin Massey and Ann Clegg were re-elected to the committee, while Blair Patterson and Ellis Greenwood were formally elected to the committee after being co-opted during the year.
