Civic reception for Rochdale Hornets

Date published: 28 October 2016

A civic reception was held at Rochdale Town Hall on Tuesday in honour of Rochdale Hornets magnificent achievement in beating Toulouse Olympique in France in the League One Promotion Final.

Hornets Chairman, Mark Wynn said: “It’s been about a month or so since we won and now is the time it’s genuinely starting to sink in.

"We’re grateful to the council for inviting us, it’s difficult getting everyone down at the same time with the Mayor and the council leader’s busy schedules, and we appreciate that they put on an event for us.

"It genuinely does mean a lot that people recognise it was a victory in adversity.

"No one gave us a chance to win playing 1,000 miles away in a hostile environment, but we stuck together, our team, our coaches and staff were all brilliant.

"It’s like what Nelson said ‘every man did his duty’ and we came up with the goods.

"We got a shiny pot, but that cup is the manifestation of our hard work and endeavour over a season.
