Boxing: Danyal Mahmood reaches the Junior Development National final

Date published: 28 October 2016

Danyal Mahmood has reached the Junior Development National final in only his first season.

The Queensway ABC boxer goes in to the final with an unbeaten record but is up against another very good boxer with only one loss on his card.

Danyal beat Connor Murphy, from Rectory ABC, via unanimous decision in a semi-final fight in which he was hampered by a hand injury sustained in sparring running up to the bout.

Coach John Finnerty said: “Obviously, this is not an ideal situation going into the biggest fight of his life but sometimes you are faced with obstacles that you need to overcome so this week’s preparation has changed dramatically.

"Danyal is a very talented young man and dedicated to the sport so even with this handicap we are still confident he can come through this and bring the title back to Rochdale."

The final is in Grantham where he is up against Louis Small of Fareham ABC.
