Sarhan Khan wins first ever competitive boxing bout

Date published: 26 October 2016

Sarhan Khan won his first ever competitive boxing bout for Hamer Amateur Boxing Club in a fight against Ciaran Gallagher of Larches & Savick Boxing Academy.

In the first round, 12-year-old Khan used his reach and height advantage to keep his on-coming opponent at bay with solid one-two combinations that continually knocked Gallagher's head back.

In the second-round Gallagher came out of his corner with different tactics, which he used to his full advantage when he stayed in close to Khan to throw hooks to the body.

Khan struggled to keep his dogged opponent at bay and the contest became an untidy affair, but as the round progressed, Gallagher started to tire which allowed Khan to offload the cleaner punches.

Before the third and last round Khan was told by his coach Matt Lageard to box like he did in the first round. Keep his distance, use his reach advantage and move off the ropes when pressed there. The advice was enough to see the Hamer boxer take the bout by unanimous decision.
