Mayfield rugby players chosen for English Lions Youth

Date published: 06 September 2016

Jack Rush and Declan Sheridan, both of Castleton, were chosen to represent the English Lions Youth U19 rugby team whilst they toured in Canada this summer.

Having performed well in trials and matches, the 19-year-olds impressed coaches enough to secure places when the squad was announced.

They usually play for Rochdale Mayfield’s first team, with Sheridan in a forward position (as a hooker or rake), whilst Rush is a prop.

The English Lions Youth team is organised by the Rugby Football League (RFL) and scouts players of community clubs.

The team has won all three matches in their tour, beating the Canada Wolverines U23 team 54-4, the Ontario Teacher and Students 70-16 and the Canada Nationals 22-18.
