Wigton RUFC 18 -11 Littleborough RUFC

Date published: 05 September 2016

Littleborough lost their first league match of the new season to Cumbrian club, Wigton RUFC.

Boro kicked off and quickly got winger Matt Goldthorpe on attack, followed by a penalty by Andy Walton which went just wide of the posts.

Wigton hit back with an attacking run up to Boro's try line but Boro won the ensuing lineout and Walton made an effective clearance.

Wigton opened the scoring with a penalty before Park hit back converting a penalty for Boro to level the score.

Boro took the lead on the stroke of half time, a great ball intervention by Walton saw him feed winger Coop who crossed the try line. The conversion attempt missed.

Only minutes into the second half Wigton were back level scoring an unconverted try.

Wigton spurned two chanches to take the lead, missing two penalties.

Boro made Wigton pay when Park converted a penalty to put them into the lead with only seven minutes plus injury time left to play.

However, another penalty award to Wigton near Boro’s try line proved conclusive as the Wigton forwards worked the ball over Boro’s line for a converted try.

Wigton made sure of the win with a successful penalty in the closing minutes.
