Wood Cup final at Redbrook on Sunday

Date published: 05 August 2016

Redbrook, the home of Rochdale Cricket Club stages the final of the J.W. Lees Bitter Wood Cup Final on Sunday, the first time it has been staged under the auspices of the newly formed Pennine League.

Rochdale will feature as they take on Walsden.

Rochdale have had a mixed season so far, their inconsistency caused by a batting line up heavily reliant on professional Will Bosisto, but the highlight of their summer has been their run in the Wood Cup. Having beaten Micklehurst, Milnrow and Austerlands in the early rounds they then beat Littleborough by one wicket in a thrilling semi-final last month.

They will start underdogs against Walsden, who, by common consent, are the best team in the league.

Walsden, led by Jamie Rawlinson, are top of the league and are seeking to win ‘the double’, but Rochdale have a proud history in the competition having won it 12 times. Only Littleborough, with 13 wins, have hoisted the trophy more times.

The match, which is 50 overs per side starts at 1.30pm.

Admission prices are £4.00 for adults, £2.00 concessions.

Admission will be by the entrance to the club on Bridgefold Road off Spotland Bridge. There is no entrance to the ground off Bury Road.

There is parking on the ground but once parking spaces are filled spectators can park on adjoining streets.

Spectators will not be allowed to take their own alcohol onto the ground. There will be a number of bars in operation all selling a range of beers at reasonable prices.
