Springfield Park Junior Football Club looking for players

Date published: 03 August 2016

Springfield Park Junior Football Club are looking for new players for their U14s Tsunami team ahead of the new season.

Tsunami play on the pitch on the inside of the running track at Springfield Park and are set to kick off their league campaign in the third division of the Bury North junior football league on Saturday 10 September.

Coach Gary Eaton explained how the club was set up only a few years ago: “The U14s have been playing together for about three years. We set up from scratch, some parents got together and decided to set up a club after grievances with other teams.

“We try to do things correctly by ensuring that everyone in the club has their DBS and every coach has a training qualification. It seems to be one of the fastest growing clubs in the area.

“Anyone that turns up gets about a three-week trial, so if the player and the parent like the development and everyone is happy, we take them on. If not, they can still get on with one of our other teams. We’ve got more than one team for most of the age groups here and have about 150 children at the club from seven to 14-years-old.

“We’re a friendly development club, but it’s not about making the next big thing, it’s about helping children work hard and play as a team.”

He also explained the club’s association with the RKT Trust, which was set up in the memory of Ryan Taylor, who in died in 2012 after falling from the Rakewood Viaduct on the M62: “It’s a worthy cause that funds projects for young people in the North West.

“If you are deemed to be a good cause you can receive money and they awarded us £500 to buy some training equipment. They liked what we do because we never turn a kid away.

“They recently had a charity cricket match on Friday 29 July and also have a football match against Sacred Heart FC coming up in a few weeks on Sunday 28 August to raise money.”

All teams at Springfield Park JFC are mixed with both boys and girls welcome at all age groups, although there are plans to have some girls’ teams in time for next season.

The team is looking for a striker but players in all positions are encouraged to go along to training from 6.00pm -8.00pm on Thursdays and 10.00am -12.00pm on Saturday mornings.
