Norden make it three wins on the bounce

Norden made it three wins on the bounce when they beat Glodwick at Stag Park on Saturday.

The match didn’t exactly go to Norden's plan at the start, finding themselves two wickets down with only one run on the board, and one of those out was professional Michael Price.

Ash Gowers and Rehan Udwadia pulled the innings round with a mix of caution and hard hitting, then skipper Simon North hammered a quick half century to help push the final total up to 238 for seven.

Glodwick were never in the hunt, and their reply ended with 125 showing on the board.

Norden were stunned in the first over. Price faced a wide from Franco Lenhardt and was clean bowled next delivery. Final ball of the over and Harvey Fittton was caught behind by Michael Bing.

Any fears of a total collapse, the kind of which was seen earlier in the season, was ended by Gowers and Udwadia.

Gowers reached his half century with two cuts for fours, and put three figures up for the total at the same time.

Udwadia reached 50 out of 131, but he was caught behind two balls later after snicking a Michael Parkinson delivery into the hands of Bing.

Gowers was finally trapped leg before by Parkinson for 74, and by that time Simon North was in full flight. His 50 came off 34 balls and included a couple of sixes. The skipper added another six but was then caught by Franco Lenhardt.

Steve Pimm and Martin Smith added to the six-hits as Norden pushed on to what looked a winnable total.

It proved more than a winnable total as Glodwick never really got going in their reply.

Lenhardt was bowled by Chris Hartley without a run on the board, and with 26 scored Mahmood had his middle stick knocked back by Hartley.

Five runs later professional Rehan Rafique fished at a Smith delivery outside off and Gowers took the catch behind the stumps.

Bing was given out leg before, and Mirza gloved a Smith delivery to Gowers.

It was 68 for five and some decided they had seen enough.

They did miss some resistance from Chris Longley, but the remaining wickets were mopped up by Harvey Fitton and Nick Fairchild who rounded it all off with a low taken return catch.
