Under 13s badminton tournament

Date published: 19 March 2016

Rochdale Junior Badminton Club held the under 13s badminton tournament on Saturday 12 March 2016 at Falinge Park High School.

Players from across Rochdale, Bury, Oldham and Whitworth participated in the annual tournament held for both girls and boys.

Over 150 competitive badminton singles and doubles games were played.

Head coach Bob Heaton said: "The day was a huge success with the sports hall packed with both players and spectators. The games were good to watch with many very close games."

The club has been providing opportunities for players under the age of 16 to complete for almost 50 years.

It was clear to see that players had fun, played their best and demonstrated excellent sportsmanship through the tournament.

One of the parents, Harry Buckley from Rochdale, said: "Alex had a great day. He'd been waiting all week and as a tournament it did not disappoint, even though he did not win.

"The tournament was well supported both by players and parents alike and is a great accolade not only to the club but to those who run the club and coach the players."

The tournament was also made possible by the volunteers who kept score, managed team registrations and organised matches during the tournament.
