GMP Museum takes a leap into the 21st century with new website

Date published: 12 November 2015

People can use the internet to take a step back in time as the GMP Museum launches its new website this week.

The upgrade comes as visitor figures continue to rise at the museum and will give members of the public easy access to some of the collections on display, as well as key information on open days and events.

New features include collections of the museum’s photography and videos, such as ‘Police stations through the years’. Visitors to the site can also see the effect of the two World Wars on the city, and look through the roll of honour of officers who have died in the line of duty.

The site’s new layout is also developed to be completely user-friendly and mobile-responsive, so pages can be viewed on the go. There has also been digitisation of other museum resources, including a new iPad app that shows the roll of honour on a tablet at the museum.

Katie Brown, Museum Officer at the GMP Museum said: “This new website brings us right into the 21st century and makes it easier for people to access the wealth of knowledge and history that we hold here at the museum in new and exciting ways.

“It also helps us reach more people - by giving online access to GMP resources at the touch of a button, we open our collections to a truly global audience.”
